A column spotlighting our local and diverse O.C. communities and global topics that traverse our streets.
We want your pitch! Want to gain a byline for your CV? Or maybe you know a local author or artist that deserves the spotlight? Or just need extra cash and think you can do a good job at prioritizing BIPOC and LGBTQ+ topics in your region?
I want to read your ideas. We accept on a rolling basis, but publication is only once a month (the first Friday). So there's no need for multiple pitches but I do welcome them to plan ahead if it aligns with our focus. Doesnโt have to be O.C. based headlines.
We ask folks to read through previously published work to get to know what we are looking for and prioritize for our community. I ask folks to submit pitches before writing a piece and submitting. We only publish timely book profiles within a month's time of publication. Also, I am ok using this as a teaching moment, which means if I like the pitch, I will mentor someone through publication if I see the potential. Once the pitch is accepted there's no fear of rejection, only the commitment to edits.
