Joe Bobโs Thought of the Day: Medical Edition
Added 2022-08-18 03:18:32 +0000 UTCHave you ever examined one of those 90-page medical bills where the hospital is charging $9.50 every time they use a Q-tip?
If you have good insurance, it says, "Well, your total bill is $97,000, but we're adjusting it down by $20,000 and your insurance company is paying $76,950, so you owe us $50."
And if you have bad insurance, it says, "Well, your total bill is $97,000, but we're adjusting it down by $80,000 and you owe us $17,000."
But if you have no insurance, and you just go to the hospital and say, "What will you charge me for this operation if I pay you cash?" they say, "Okay, well it's $97,000, but we'll do it for $5,000."
So here's my question. Is the hospital lying? Or are the doctors lying? Or are the insurance companies lying? Or is it just the accounting firms?

2022-08-19 04:26:39 +0000 UTCMy dad was a veteran but also had masshealth (massachusetts state health insurance) and when he passed away they put a lien on his estate for $65k that I was legally obligated to pay by selling anything worth money which ended up being his house ๐ so idt insurance is paying for anything. Everything is a lie ๐๐

Now we have employers who don't really care about your health working with insurers who don't really care about your health to make deals with hospitals who don't really care about your health.

Iโve been working 4 โpart timeโ Human Services jobs, two of them for over 15 years, so Iโm caring for others for a living, and I still canโt get an affordable insurance plan because Iโm not โfull timeโ, โdisabledโ, or โdestituteโ.
