Weekly Update #67

So, apparently I've switched from writing Friday-Sunday to writing Saturday-Monday. I swear my schedule just can't stay consistent. But, at the same time, I try not to be too hard on myself since I still get my work done and I know that forcing myself to stick to a set schedule adds way more stress on top of everything.

Speaking of stress! Hoh boy do I have a lot of work I need to do. Let's see...

1. I want to revamp Patreon - just make it nicer and more concise and all that. The actual tiers aren't going to change or anything. I just want to try and make everything look nicer.

2. Editing. Oh god, the editing. I seriously want to get at least TTE and TQH up on Amazon within the next 2-3 months... and that is going to require a lot of editing. Speaking of which, if you read TTE, make sure to read my section on it below and comment on it! Anyways, yeah, editing takes me a long time and I don't want to pay for an editor because that'll be at least $700 per book for any quality editing. Also - I don't know, I just don't want anybody else touching my writing. If I was writing as part of a group project (for example, being the writer on a team for visual novels), then I would be fine with it. But these stories are 100% my own creations and I want it to stay that way. Also, I'm pretty confident in my editing skills.  Keep in mind that 99% of what you read from me only gets extremely light editing, like 5 minutes per chapter. I like to think I'm pretty literate and tend to get things correct most of the time without thorough editing, so I'm confident in when I actually do thoroughly edit my writing. But yeah, each volume of TTE will probably take me 15-20 hours total at least to edit. TQH will take even longer since it'll need some revisions to the system, I'll have to go super serious about tracking numbers to make sure everything adds up properly, etc. So, at some point in the upcoming months, I might have to just take a week off from writing so that I can focus on editing. We'll see. Hopefully, I'll be able to just motivate myself to cram it into a week on top of writing normally.

3. Everything else. Homebrewing, gaming, being like 3 seasons behind on anime, having a ton of books I want to read, FFXIV, new stories, chatting with people - it's like there just isn't enough time in the day which is a really weird feeling for me. This past year and a half have gone by so damn fast for me because I always have something to do now and I can't do everything. Doing one thing means taking away time from doing something else. Throughout pretty much my entire college education and the many years before that, it was like I had an abundance of time and nothing to do with it. Now, I wish I felt like I have even a fraction of that time. Being a procrastinator doesn't help at all either, seriously. There's just so much I want to experience, have fun with, learn, work on, etc.

I need a clone of myself. Preferably a girl clone of myself. Preferably multiple girl clones of myself.

Also, I've made the shift from wanting to move to Maine to wanting to move to Alaska. Next, I'll probably just want to buy a boat to live up in the Arctic. I'm pretty sure that would technically be legal... and also extremely stupid.

30 hours. So, not as high as I'd like it to be, but I think that's a good sign of this new release cycle working for me. I'm getting chapters done faster even though they're longer. And I would probably be able to cut those hours down even more if I could stop getting distracted while writing. I mean, I've managed to write 1,000 words in 20 minutes before and my average typing speed is about 130 WPM. It's technically possible for me to get a full 5k word chapter done in 1-2 hours. Getting myself to actually write that fast without stopping to think about what I'm writing and without getting distracted is a different story, unfortunately.

The True Endgame

Alright. One, I think I might post TTE first this week just because it's been the last to update lately. TTE deserves a spot at the front of the lineup, too. Two, I might switch to writing it in past tense. Why? Because I plan on editing all of the previous volumes for the self-published editions into being past tense. I've just grown out of my present tense phase and find that past tense works far better with the style I've developed. So, the reason for switching the web novel version from present to past is because it would save me a lot of work when editing it in the future. I'm basically going to have to rewrite each volume to make the shift to past tense since that would probably be faster than trying to individually edit the tenses in each line.

So, if you read TTE, do you care about whether it is written in past or present tense? I mean, it's still going to be the same story told the same way. It's just that we'll be getting a lot more "said" instead of "says," basically. Also, another reason why I'm most likely going to make the shift for the self-published edition is because past-tense just has a wider appeal. Present tense can put a lot of people off from stories and I know that it has in TTE's case. It would help the series be more successful, I believe, to be edited into past tense.

Oh, and just to clarify since I mentioned the word "rewrite" above and I know that can trigger certain feelings in some people: I do not mean anything like pausing the series to post a rewritten version from the very beginning or anything. I just mean rewriting it while editing it for the published editions while continuing to update the web novel version at its current place. Literally all that would change is the tenses in future chapters, maybe.

Ero Dungeon Online

I've already written a bunch for this weekly update and don't really have anything interesting to say for EDO this time around, but I will say I'm still enjoying it much more than I enjoyed EDE.

The Queen's Hound

TTE is likely getting a shift to past tense and I was thinking about doing the same for TQH, but I don't think past tense would work with how TQH is without some major changes to the narration style. So, while TTE might be getting that change, TQH almost definitely is not which means it might become my only present tense story.

Lazy Dragon Queen

Ugh, I feel like a narcissist because I've reread the latest couple of chapters a few times just to enjoy them again. They're just so good imo and give me many happy feelings. Here's to hoping that I can get people to feel what I feel when reading this story.

CORE

The few chapters before these last two could likely do with some improvements in the future, but these last two chapters are back to being CORE proper, I believe. The waifus are getting more time to shine now, too, which is obviously important in all of my stories.

In Closing

I have things I need to do... like doing my beast tribe quests in FFXIV and getting Fisher up to level 80. Other than that, today is going to be a take-it-easy day after I post chapters for free readers.
