045 Experiment!
Added 2025-06-19 09:37:20 +0000 UTCThe sudden voice made Loki's body stiffen!
He slowly turned his gaze and saw, through the mirror, a strange man he had never seen before sitting casually on the sofaâan inexplicable smile on his face.
âWho are you?!â
Loki spun around, and two daggers instantly appeared in his hands.
Russell smiled and said,
âYou forgot me already~?â
He raised his left hand and waved it casually.
Loki instinctively covered the right side of his face. His expression darkened, and he shouted angrily:
âYouâre the one who slapped me before!â
âAnd you dare to come back?!â
Russell shrugged. âDonât get so worked up. Iâve been thinking it over⌠and I actually feel a little sorry for you.â
Seeing his casual attitude, Loki regained some confidence.
He raised his chin with a sneer. âTrying to apologize now?â
âHmph. Too late!â
With that, he charged forward, daggers in handâdetermined to stab Russell full of holes.
Russell didnât even move. He simply sighed at the incoming attack:
âCanât any version of Loki change their tactics?â
âWhy must a magician act like an assassin?â
He lifted his hand and delivered a clean slap across Lokiâs left cheekâjust as Loki practically flung himself into the blow.
Smack!
Loki spun midair like a ragdoll, performing several unintended 720-degree flips before slamming flat onto the metal floor.
Russell looked pleased, clapping his hands lightly.
âThere. One for the right, one for the left. Now itâs balanced.â
Loki slowly lifted his headâboth sides of his face now evenly swollen.
He raised a trembling finger, pointed at Russell with grief and indignation, and croaked:
âYou didnât come to apologize at all!â
âHuh?â Russell raised an eyebrow. âWhen did I say I came here to apologize?â
âI just thought it was unfair for your face to be lopsided.â
âSo tell me⌠do you still have any complaints about your left cheek now?â
Loki almost fainted.
He took several deep breaths, forced himself up from the floor, and roared:
âIâm going to fight you!!â
Once again, he charged.
Russell sighed. âTsk tsk⌠Still no creativity.â
He ignored Lokiâs attack entirely and flicked his wrist toward the hatch.
A purple magic web shot out and struck something invisibleârevealing a startled Loki as the illusion spell dissolved in a shimmer of green light.
He had tried to escape using phantom magic, but he was seen through instantly.
That terrified him.
Just then, Russellâs calm voice echoed through the room:
âYour illusion magic is far too sloppy.â
He flicked his fingers again, sending several purple webs flying. They sealed Lokiâs mouth and suspended him in midair.
Then Russell waited.
Ten minutes passed. Nothing happened.
He checked the Time Pad.
Still no time branch.
After thinking for a moment, he casually dissolved the web covering Lokiâs mouth and walked over with a smile.
Lokiâs face turned pale. Without hesitation, he begged:
âBrother, my face is perfectly symmetrical now. Please let me go!â
âIâll do anything you ask!â
Russell patted his cheek gently and smiled.
âRelax, Loki. I told youâIâm here to save you.â
You call that saving me? Loki thought. Even Hulk didnât hit me this hard...
He forced a strained smile.
âYes, youâre absolutely rightâŚâ
He dared not talk backâafraid of yet another slap.
Seeing Lokiâs miserable state, Russell stopped teasing and spoke seriously:
âWhat if I told youâyouâre going to die soon? Would you believe me?â
Loki was startled by his tone and instinctively argued:
âHelaâs dead. I have no enemies.â
Russell raised a brow. âYou sure about that?â
âI seem to recall someone messing with Sanctuary IIâŚâ
Lokiâs face paled. âYou mean... Thanos?!â
Russell glanced again at the unchanging Time Pad and continued:
âOdinâs gone. The Sorcerer Supreme on Earth is dead. No oneâs left to stop him from collecting the Infinity Stones.â
âSanctuary II will intercept this ship in just a few hours. Then heâll slaughter everyone on board. Youâll be strangled to deathâand die with your eyes wide open.â
The casual tone only made the warning more chilling.
Loki trembled. The scenario felt all too real.
He was genuinely scared now.
Seeing that Loki believed him, Russell checked the Time Pad again.
Still no branch.
He decided to push it further.
He put on the Sling Ring, opened a portal, andâwithout warningâkicked Loki into it.
The portal led to the rooftop of Stark Tower.
Loki stumbled through in disbelief, and before he could react, the portal slammed shut.
Still, the Time Pad remained unchanged.
Russell frowned and muttered:
âEven this doesnât trigger it?â
âDoes the branch only appear at the precise moment of his death⌠when the timeline realizes Loki didnât die as he was supposed to?â
The room fell silent.
Hours Later
The hatch opened.
Loki stepped out wearing his signature green cloak.
In the control room, Thor heard the sound behind him, turned, and smiled:
âThere you are, brother. Does your face still hurt?â
Loki snorted.
âHe only escaped because he was quick. If heâd stayed just a second longer, I wouldâve shown him the power of the greatest magician in the Nine Realms.â
Stubborn as ever, Thor thought, amused, but didnât say anything.
After a moment, he chuckled:
âHonestly, I thought youâd left.â
âBut since youâre still here⌠maybe itâs time we talked about the throne of Asgardââ
Before he could finish, Loki raised a hand and pointed behind him, his expression serious.
âI donât think now is the right time for that.â
Thor turned quickly.
A massive shadow loomed overhead, blotting out the light of the star.
Darkness fell.
