If you watch the OG Z dub, just know the studio will alter his characterization early on to help the showâs success in the American market. Here is what Toriyama himself had to say: âThereâs how, basically, Son Goku from Dragon Ball doesnât fight for the sake of others, but because he wants to fight against strong guys. So once Dragon Ball got animated, at any rate, Iâve always been dissatisfied with the ârighteous heroâ-type portrayal they gave him.
