Romance is a luxury in the Brdigerton world๐ญ๐ญ I think most ppl would look for security and status over love (in the show) which is unfortunate. Lady Featherington was right, itโs mostly about being secure. Without a man, women couldnโt do much ๐คง๐คง

She doesn't want Pen to act like a fool in front of Lord D because she thinks Pen is dumb - she thinks that's what men at the time want (and many of them do, and frankly some still do), a women whom they can 'educate' and explain things to. Also, yes, security at a time when women had limited respectable means to make their own way? Pretty 'romantic'. And it's probably clear to Portia that Lord D is not going to make the same sorts of horrible blunders her own husband did. A rich husband who will mostly be gone and leave you to your own devices, who respects your ability to manage his affairs in his absence, and whom you mostly get on with and isn't physically revolting or horrible in his attitudes? Honestly, he's not a bad prospect *at all*

2024-11-23 20:49:27 +0000 UTCI actually really liked mrs featherington this season, when she tells penelope the most romantic thing is security shes not trying to be cold shes just being realistic for the time, in that conversation she could still potentially lose her house, etc... and she knows that if pen doesnt find a husband she might have these troubles for the rest of her life too. its not like women could own their own houses or money or anything back then so they literally needed a husband to live comfortably (plus its already pens 3rd season out with no other suitors so she cant afford to be too picky)

Me personally I like them but I do think their storyline for this season didn't need to be as long as it was. But I do like that they reprepresent a healthy marriage plus they are the only black family in the show, so there is rerepresentation there aswell ๐
